The Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar Trek is the most popular trek in the Everest region. This trek takes us through the Solokhumbu district and allows us a glimpse into the Sherpa Tibet and Bhotias culture. Explore the ancient monasteries and stupas with their spirituality. A scenic view of the green valleys, terrace fields, meadows, glaciers, forests and deserts regions etc awaits you while you hike from Lukla by the Khumbu region to Everest Base Camp.

We follow the same route as Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa back in 1953.

The EBC Trek is a wonderful and formative experience; it is the holy place for many mountaineers and climbers.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu 1‘355 m
At the arrival in Kathmandu's airport a representative of Happy Himalayan Treks will pick you up and take you to your hotel. In the evening we invite you to a welcome dinner, where you meet our team.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing
Enjoy the historical cultural sites of Kathmandu including UNESCO World Heritage Site, Pashupatinath (sacred Hindu temples), Boudhanath (Buddhist shrine) Swayembhunath (monkey temple), etc.

Day 03: Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, Trek to Phakding 2‘610 m
The flight to Lukla takes about 30 minutes and offers a wonderful view to the mountains, forests and river valleys. After landing in Lukla, we begin our trek to Phakding. The path takes you through the beautiful landscapes.

Day 04: Phakding – Namche Bazar 3'440 m
We walk along the Dudh Kosi river valley and through pine, spruce and rhododendron forests. In Monjo we enter the Sagarmatha National Park. The first look to the Mount Everest - the view of the huge mountains is impressive. 

Day 05: Acclimatization day
Today we let our body time to adjust to the high altitude. This is very important; altitude sickness can be life-threatening. Stroll through Namche, which seems to be a huge bazaar and enjoy the mountain panorama and the Sherpa culture or visit the Sherpa museum.

Day 06: Namche – Tengboche 3'860 m
After about 30 minutes uphill walk, we have a great view of the mountains and the Dudh Kosi valley. 2 hours later we reach Sanasa, it is the crossroads which leads either to Gokyo Khumjung valley or to Tengboche, there is also an excellent view of the surrounding mountains. Later we cross a suspension bridge that crosses the Dudh Kosi River. We continue uphill until we arrive in Tengboche.

Day 07: Trek to Dingboche 4‘410 m
On the way to Dingboche we walk through beautiful and varied landscapes. The panoramic views, pastures and often deserted huts are an unforgettable experience.                       

Day 08: Acclimatization day
This is our second rest day. Hike for example, to Dingboche Monastery or Chhukung village. Enjoy the spectacular panorama of Mount Everest, Amadablam, Lhotse, Tawache, Nuptse, Kwangde etc. 

Day 09: Dingboche – Lobuche 4‘910 m
We walk up to Dugla till to the Khumbu glacier and have stunning views of the Tawache and Cholatse. Because of the cold it is more likely to feel the altitude. 

Day 10: Lobuche – Gorakshep – Everest Base Camp 5‘300 m – Lobuche – 8 hours
Accompanied by stunning mountain views, we climb today to the Everest Base Camp from where the expeditions start to the highest mountain in world. An unforgettable experience.

Because of the high altitude we stay in Lobuche and not in Gorakshep

Day 11: Via Kala Patthar 5‘555 m from Lobuche to Pheriche 4'240 m
Today we hike up to Kala Patthar and have a fantastic view of Mount Everest, Pumori and Amadablan. The glaciers give us the feeling of being close to heaven. After this panoramic hike we descend to Pheriche where we spend the night. 

Day 12: Pherice – Tengboche 3'860 m
We walk back to Tengboche. The path is pleasant and offers beautiful views of the mountains and forests. After we reach Tengboche, we have plenty of time to explore the surrounding area and the village.

Day 13: Tengboche – Namche Bazar 3‘440 m
We walk down from Tengboche to Namche Bazar and have wonderful views of the valley Monjo. We feel how the mountains slowly and steadily remove. 

Day 14: Namche – Phakding – Lukla 2‘840 m
Today the trail brings us through a similar area as yesterday. We descend steeply down and passing the Bhote Kosi River until Monjo. Afterwards it goes down along the Dudh Kosi River and we take the final climb to the Lukla plateau. 

Day 15: Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu
While we enjoy the magnificent mountain panorama flight, some nostalgia comes on. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we have plenty of time for shopping or to reminisce our experiences of trekking in a cafe. Evening: enjoy a little festive dinner with us. 

Day 16: Rest day in Kathmandu
Enjoy your last day in Kathmandu, explore the last of not yet discovered spots, a City Guide can help you with this. 

Day 17: Flight back home
Today is the day to say goodbye. Thank you for the wonderful time together. Have a safe journey home and maybe until next time.
