Since Generation "twice a year - high in the foothills of the Himalayas - Gurung man gather on a cliff – it is the home to the world's largest honey bee - Apis laboriosa - to harvest the honey. This unique way of honey harvest – is a ritual that varies from community to community.  It is a one time opportunity to experience this unique traditional honey - hunting!"

The Himalayan honey bee project (International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Kathmandu) plays an active role for the sustainable management and working with local communities for the survival of this unique specie.

Mardi Himal trek is the best way to explore the natural and cultural beauty of the region. Mardi Himal Trek takes you to the isolated parts of Annapurna region. It is rich on nature beauty like dense forests of rhododendron, pine, bamboo, oak and offers a different kind of rare and non rare wild animals, different species of birds and butterflies.

From Mardi Himal summit we have a beautiful view to Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and Himchuli.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmamdu to Pokhara

Day 04: Drive from Pokhara Kande – trek to Pittam Deurali

Day 05: Pittam Deurali - Forest Camp

Day 06: Forest Camp - Low Camp

Day 07: Low Camp - High Camp

Day 08: High Camp – Upper View Pint / Mardi Himal Base Camp – High Camp

Day 09: High Camp – Low Camp - Siding

Day 10: Siding – Lumre – drive to Pokhara

Day 11: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing
Enjoy a guided tour of the famous historical and cultural attractions Kathmandu's, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Pashupatinath (holy Hindu Temple), Boudhanath (Buddhist Shrine) Swayembhunath (Monkey temple) etc. In the evening we meet our tour guide to prepare our trek.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara

Day 04: Drive from Pokhara Kande – trek to Pittam Deurali
We let the Phewa Lake behind us. After around 1 hour drive we arrive in Kande another hour of walking up, brings us to the Australian Camp which is located on a beautiful view point to see Annapurna South, Himchuli and Machhapuchhre. The trail is continuing through rhododendron forest to Pittam Deurali.

Day 05: Pittam Deurali - Forest Camp
A long day awaits us. The way leads us through forests, which are mainly dominated by large oak trees on its mossy trunks sometimes orchids growing. The larger forest glade with a shelter, invites to make a stop here and having a rest.

Day 06: Forest Camp - Low Camp
We climb more up and walking through oak trees and rhododendrons forest, in spring time the flower bloom in all kind of shade of red. From our camp we have a beautiful view of the Machhapuchhre.

Day 07: Low Camp - High Camp
We climb around 200 meter altitude difference and arrive on a small ridge, it is a vantage point, we have a breathtaking view of the Annapurna South, the Himchuli and the dominating Machhapuchhre. If the weather is clear we even able to see the Terai region in the south. After a break we continue to walk uphill until we arrive at High Camp.

Day 08: High Camp – Upper View Pint / Mardi Himal Base Camp – High Camp
We climb up to the Upper Viewpoint and Mardi Himal Base Camp. Absolute safety step and not fear of heights are required. Some parts are alpine.  

Day 09: High Camp – Low Camp – Siding
After around 3 hours we arrive at the Low Camp. We continuing through subtropical mountain forest, later we pass pasture fields.

Day 10: Siding – Lumre – drive to Pokhara
Today we pass the villages of Kalimati and Ghalel. The villages are mainly a Brahmin and Gurung. From Lumre we drive back to Pokhara.

Day 11: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Day 12: Departure
