The Dudhkunda - “The lake of milk” – is a holy mountain lake and it is said to be sacred. It is believed that taking a bath in its holy water will fulfill one’s wishes. During the full moon night in August a one week long celebration is held by pilgrims and Jhakis (Shaman priests)

Thupten Choling Monastery: One of the biggest Monasteries in Nepal with more than 1’000 monks and nuns of Tibetan origin and mainly Tibetan refugees is one of many monasteries we are able to visit on the way.

Pikey Danda is one of the highest hills of Solu, enjoy the sunset or sunrise to the Himalayan Range, Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Annapurna, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Numbur, Shishapangma, Mera Peak, Thamserku and many more. The name Pikey is derived from the name of a Sherpa clan deity.

This trek can be made also with fewer days, either only the Pikey or only the Dudhkunda Trail.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing
Enjoy the historical cultural sites of Kathmandu including UNESCO World Heritage Site, Pashupatinath (sacred Hindu temples), Boudhanath (Buddhist shrine) Swayembhunath (monkey temple), etc.

Day 03: Flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu – trek to Salleri 2'379 m
A 35 minutes flight brings us to Phaplu, we have time to visit the local market and the Chewang Monastery, after a 30 minutes’ walk we arrive in Salleri.

Day 04: Salleri – Dorpu – Ghunsa 
We will pass through Tamang, Magar and Sherpa settlements and having beautiful mountains view.

Day 05: Ghunsa – Kerung – Pattale 2'840 m
It is a long day of trekking from Ghunsa towards Kerung and Pattale. In Kerung we can visit a Buddhist monastery and the Stupa. From the camp we can enjoy a great panoramic mountain view.

Day 06: Pattale – Jhapre 2'820 m
On the way we are able to see wild orchids and we will have a beautiful view along the Solu Okhaldhunga border. In Jhapre are monasteries and a Buddhist Stupa.

Day 07: Jhapre – Pikey Base Camp 3'640 m
The vegetation is changing; from here you already can see the Himalayan flora and fauna. In this area we can find centuries old monasteries, Buddhist Stupas, Mani stones and we will pass yak herding at different places. This particular region is also used for marathon and mountain bike race.

Day 08: Pikey Base Camp – Junbesi 2'700 m
The trail goes via Pikey peak. We wake early to enjoy the sunrise view above Kanchenjunga to Dhaulagiri including Everest. After we crossed Pikey Peak we walk down through an unique landscape of Junbesi valley.

Day 09: Junbesi – Thuptenchholing – Sengeephuk 3'940 m
On the way we can observe the wildlife and in Thuptenchholing we have the chance to see the traditional Tibetan medicinal therapy, visiting the monastery as well the Phunmoche Monastery and meditation cave.

Day 10: Sengeephuk – Basa Khola – Saharsbeni 3'835 m
We start our day with a visit at Shengeephuk cave where we can see palm imprint on stone. Afterwards we walk through alpine forests and we get closer view of mountains.

Day 11: Saharsbeni – Dudhkunda
Today we arrive at the mountain glacier, Lake Dudhkunda, from here we have a close view to the mountains. If your trekking is during August you are able to be a part of fair at Janai Purnima which is one of the remarkable festivals of Nepal and you can observe migratory aquatic birds during rainy season.

Day 12: Dudhkunda – Takshindu / Ringmo 2'720 m
In Takshindu is a local monastery rich in distinctive culture. Taste the local cuisine in Ringmo: the apple delicacies, apple wine, yak cheese and local vegetables cooked as desired.

Day 13: Takshindu – Phaplu 2'469 m
Early in the morning you will be stunned by the view of mountains from Takshindu. We walk through alpine forest and Sherpa settlements until we arrive in Phaplu.

Day 14: Flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu
