Everest Short Trek Itinerary
Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu
Day 02 Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and Trek to Phakding 2610 m
The short flight to Lukla is impressive. We fly parallel to the Himalayas. Upon arrival, we have some time to watch around. Then our trek starts with a descent on a wide trail through the Dudh Kosi valley. Before we finally arrive in Phakding we will walk through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests.
Day 3-4 Phakding to Namche Bazar 3440 m
From Phakding we climb up the valley and meet among others Sherpa's with their "Zopkio‘s" half Yak half cow transporting equipment for expeditions to their camp. We follow the Dudh Kosi River upstream and can sneak a peek at Kusum Kangru 6'369 m and Thanserku 6‘608 m, finally we enter the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park.
For the first time we get the opportunity to have a glimpse of Mount Everest 8'848 m, Lhotse 8'511 m, Nuptse 7‘879 m, Amadablam 6'856 m and Taweche 6‘542 m. We reach Namche Bazar.
On Rest day, stroll through Namche, which seems to be a huge bazar. Foods such as rice, corn and some vegetables does not grow at this altitude it brought from the villages in the lowlands (sometimes up to 10 days march) to Namche Bazar. Enjoy the Mountain View and the Sherpa culture or visit the Sherpa museum.
Day 05 Namche Bazar to Khumjung 3780 m
From Namche Bazar, we walk a narrow path above the Dudh Kosi river, the view is incredibly beautiful, we see the Nupla and Kwangde Himal 6'194 m in the south of the valley, the towering ice walls of Thamserku 6'623 m in the east and Lhotse, Nuptse, Mt. Everest which again rise up about 3‘500 meters from the valley of Dingboche.
Sagarmatha, "Goddess Mother Earth" is a great sight. On a small mountain ridge above the valley, we are able to see the Tengboche monastery as a small spot. We go down to the small Sherpa village Khumjung. You might take the opportunity to try the Sherpa specialty Riki Kur, a type of potato pancake which is enriched with yak butter. We arrive in Khumjung, the Monastery, as they say, keeping the head of the Yeti.
Day 06 Khumjung to Tengboche 3860 m
In the morning it goes first to the villages of Sanasa and Trashinga, the path drops steeply, at Phukitenga we cross the Dudh Kosi River. We climb steadily. About 2 ½ hours we walk through pine, spruce, black juniper and rhododendron forests. Tengboche is located in a beautiful meadow high on a ridge surrounded by the towering Himalayas. A peaceful, quiet location and the monastery in the middle, a wonderful sight.
Day 07 Tengboche to Monjo 2840 m
We descend steeply down and passing the Bhote Kosi River until Monjo.
Day 08 Monjo to Lukla 2840 m
After breakfast we go down along the Dudh Kosi River and then take the final climb to the Lukla plateau. Upon arrival in Lukla, we have plenty of time to relax us and celebrate our successful tour.
Day 09 Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu
Early in the morning it goes to the small airport in Lukla. The rest of the day we have enough time to enjoy Kathmandu.
Day 10 Departure
Today is time to say good bye. Hope to see you again. Have a safe journey ! Our staff will pick up from the hotel and drop off at airport.
