Solu Khumbu Trek itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu
Day 2 Drive from Kathmandu to Jiri 1905 m
Drive early in the morning from Kathmandu, It takes about 7 to 8 hours drive to Jiri.
Day 3 Trek to Bhandar 2910 m
We start our trek with a climb on a ridge at 2‘400 m. Then the trail leads down to Shivalaya 1‘770 m. Before the road to Jiri was opened, this part was one of the most actively traded markets between Lamosangu and Namche Bazar.
After Shivalaya it goes up to Sangbadanda 2‘150 m, Kosaribas 2'500 m, Bhanjyang, then over a pass in Bhandar 2‘910 m. Maybe we can make a detour between Sangbadanda and Bhandar to make a visit in Thodung to 3'080 m.
Day 4 Bhandar to Sete 2575 m
The road takes us down to the Likhu Khola, we cross the river and begin our long ascent to Lamjura pass. The first part is quite steep. Sete welcomes us with its old vacate monastery.
Day 5 Sete to Junbesi 2680 m
We're still on the climb to pass Lamjura 3'530 m. On the way you will be rewarded either with frost and snow in winter or in spring with blooming rhododendrons. The pass is the highest point between Jiri and Namche Bazar. After the pass, we descend to Tragdobuk 2‘860 m on and afterwards down to Junbesi a pretty Sherpa village.
Day 6 Junbesi to Nuntala 2330 m
First, we climb on a ridge 3'080 m before reaching Salung 2‘960 m. Afterwards we cross the Ringmo Khola and reach Ringmo where we can enjoy fresh apple juice, apple pie or Raksi (a kind of rice wine). We climb more up and reach the Takshindo pass 3’071 m. On the way down we pass the monastery of Nuntala.
Day 7 Nuntala to Khari Khola 2040 m
We walk through various villages, passing terraces fields and forests and arrive in Khari Khola.
Day 8 Khari Khola to Paiya 2730 m
The way to Paiya takes us through Sherpa villages, forests inhabited by monkeys and finally through a narrow gorge.
Day 9 Puiyan to Phakding 2610 m
Today we walk on two different ridge before we arrive first in Surke and finally in Phakding.
Day 10-11 Phakding to Namche Bazar 3440 m
From Phakding we climb up the valley and meet among others Sherpa's with their "Zopkio‘s" half Yak half cow transporting equipment for expeditions to their camp. We follow the Dudh Kosi river upstream and can sneak a peek at Kusum Kangru 6'369 m and Thanserku 6‘608 m, finally we enter the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park.
For the first time we have the opportunity to get a glimpse of Mount Everest 8'848 m, Lhotse 8'511 m, Nuptse 7‘879 m, Ama Dablam 6'856 m and Taweche 6‘542 m. We reach Namche Bazar.
Today, On rest day we let our body time to adjust to the high altitude. This is very important; altitude sickness can be life-threatening. Stroll through Namche, which seems to be a huge bazaar and enjoy the mountain panorama and the Sherpa culture or visit the Sherpa museum.
Day 12 Namche to Phorste Drengka 3680 m
After an about 1 ½ hours climb we pass Khumjung and Sanasa. The trail splits here, it leads right to the Everest Base Camp and left to Gokyo. We go left and walk up to Mong La Danda and from there we descend to Phortse Drengka.
Day 13 Phortse Drengka to Machhermo 4470 m
We begin our day with a gentle walk through a forest and passing a waterfall. Having Dole behind us, the path gradually rises and brings us through birch woods with beautiful views of the Kang Tega and in the distant yak pastures of Geyle. We follow the Dudh Kosi River and finally reach Machhermo.
Day 14-15 Machhermo to Gokyo 4790 m
The trail climbs a ridge where we have an excellent view down the valley to Kangtega and also towards Cho Oyu 8'153 m. Beyond the ridge's the valley widens. We pass Pangka before we make our final steep ascent over moraine of the glacier Ngozumpa. The first small lake inhabited by Braminy ducks appears. Finally we reach Gokyo.
This is our second rest day, Early in the morning we start either with the climb to the top of Gokyo Ri 5'483 m where we will be rewarded with an excellent view, or we visit the 5th Gokyo Lake.
From Gokyo Ri, we have wonderful view of the Gokyo valley, the massive Ngozumpa glaciers and the incredible panorama of the Khumbu Himalaya, such as the Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and Gychung Kang. We have time to acclimate before we go back to our camp.
Day 16 Gokyo to Renjo La Pass 5420m and Lungdeng 4650m
Today a long day awaits us. We continue in a northerly direction up to the Renjola pass 5'420 m. It is worth to have a glance behind us. Once on the pass we have magnificent view of the valley Nangpa, Everest and Makalu. Because of the debris, the way down is a little harder. After a while we reach the lake glacier. The valley widens and we descend on open grassland. Soon we reach the small village of Arya and Lungdeng.
Day 17 Lungdeng to Thame 3820 m
On our way further down, we follow the Bhote Kosi River. We walk through the valley and pass small villages like Nangpa, Marlung, later Taranga and finally Thame.
Day 18 Thame to Phakding 2610 m
We cross the Bhote Khola via a suspension bridge and passing painted Buddhist rock. In this region it is possible to see Himalayan Tahrs. We continue through Thamo and back to Namche Bazar where we have a lunch before continuing down the Dudh Koshi River. We leave Jorsale and Monjo behind us and walk through pine and rhododendron forests and reach Phakding.
Day 19 Phakding to Lukla 2840 m
Our last stage of walk awaits us.
Day 20 Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu
Early in the morning we go to the small airport in Lukla. We have enough time to enjoy the rest of the day in Kathmandu.
Day 21 Departure
Our staff will pick you up from hotel and take you to the airport.
